We’re sending out epic thanks to everyone who made Best of the Wurst 2017 an incredible event. Memories of this fun, delicious sausage-filled day will bring smiles and warmth long after those gorgeous fall leaves drop. More than 600 festival goers came and enjoyed truly delectable sausage creations from nearly 20 participating restaurants. It was a foodie's delight and voters got to rank their first, second and third choice preferences in each of the four neighborhood categories – St. Paul, Minneapolis Downtown and Northeast, Uptown and South Minneapolis. To win first place, a restaurant had to receive a majority of cast ballots.
It was a highly competitive election, with no candidate winning a majority of first choices in any of the categories. This meant that additional rounds of counting were needed to determine the winners. The candidates with the fewest votes were eliminated and their ballots were reallocating to the remaining candidates based on second choices until one candidate in each category received a majority of votes.
Congratulations to first place winners: Domo Gastro (Mpls Downtown and Northeast), Lake and Irving (Uptown), Blackbird (South Minneapolis) and Ox Cart Ale House (St. Paul). And a shout out to the runner-ups in each of those categories: Kierans, France 44, New Bohemia and Tillie’s Farmhouse, which was in a very tight race with Ox Cart!
Best of the Wurst would not have been possible without the hard work, creativity and general awesomeness of the following folks: ALL the participating restaurant chefs and teams; Jim Watkins and his fabulous Sociable Cider Werks crew; meteorologist and WCCO TV morning host Kylie Bearse; the hilarious and energetic Tane Danger and fellow performers from The Theater of Public Policy; all the dedicated volunteers; our fantastic FairVote MN staffers and, of course, all of YOU! We hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did – and we can’t wait to see you all again next year!
Your Fairvote Minnesota team
