Board Member Siyad Abdullahi Earns International Immigrant Achievement Award

FairVote Minnesota proudly congratulates board member Dr. Siyad Abdullahi and his wife, Khadija Ali, for earning the 2013 International Immigrant Achievement Award from the International Leadership Institute.

Dr. Abdullahi is a public health physician, health care entrepreneur and consultant. A Kenyan-born ethnic Somali who makes his home in Minneapolis, he is a tireless business and civic leader with a passion for broadening political participation and improving representation for new Americans. Dr. Abdullahi created the Reflections of New Minnesotans radio program on AM950.

The award aims to honor Twin Citians whose work has contributed significantly to international understanding, cooperation, friendship and development. Among its past recipients are other voting reform champions and FairVote Minnesota supporters, including Sally Pillbury and the late George Pillsbury and Marilyn Carlson Nelson.

Dr. Abdullahi, whos served on the FairVote Minnesota board since early 2012, will receive the award in a ceremony at the Minneapolis Club next Wednesday, May 8.
