Make your voices heard at Caucuses, March 1!

Ranked Choice Voting at 2016 Caucuses and Conventions

FairVote Minnesota urges Ranked Choice Voting supporters to attend caucuses and become delegates to their senate district, county, and state conventions. It is crucial that democracy champtions educate fellow caucusgoers about Ranked Choice Voting and ensure that RCV remains or becomes a core part of their party platforms.  Make sure your voice is heard at every stage, starting on March 1 and ending at your state convention in late May or early June!

Minnesota political parties have long been leaders in electoral reform; advancing important changes like Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in their party platforms and championing systems that are more open, inclusive, and participatory. Through years of grassroots organizing and support, the DFL adopted RCV in the 2008 Action Agenda and then again in the 2010 Action Agenda. In 2012, RCV became a part of DFL Ongoing Platform. The Green Party and Independence Party have long supported RCV (a.k.a. Instant Runoff Voting) in their party platforms.

While the MN GOP hasnt yet adopted RCV as part of their party platform, they have an opportunity to do so this year. The wide-open GOP presidential field is a prime example of the need for RCV and its ability to foster greater civility and ensure broadly supported majority winners.

This year, there will be a swell of newcomers to the political process across all parties along with an opportunity to educate them about Ranked Choice Voting and engage them in continuing to advance this important reform in their parties.
