June 1-3 Weekend Petition Push

Our numbers are looking good and the endorsements keep coming, but we need a surge of signatures in early June to ensure that Instant Runoff Voting gets on the ballot this fall. Why not devote the weekend of June 1 to 3 to petitioning and summer festivals?

Increase your fun at Grand Old Day on Sunday, June 3 by bringing a petition. Come at 9:30 a.m. to join the party of volunteers, and our two new summer interns, to gather signatures from people walking from the neighborhoods to the parade route and then talk to them while they wait for the parade. Earlybirds, why not take petitions to the runners and in-line skaters before their races start, from 8-9:30 a.m. Art lovers, gather signatures while you take in the show, at St. Albans and Dale from 8-9:30 am. If you have kids, show them democracy in action by talking to other parents while you wait in line at the family area at Ramsey Jr. High, from 10 am to 4 pm.

The Cathedral of St. Paul celebrates its Centennial with public events, including fireworks the night of Friday, June 1 and an 11 am parade on Saturday, June 2. The St. Anthony Park Art Fair is Saturday, June 2 from 9:30 to 4 p.m. Music events occur almost every night at the Como Park Lakeside Pavilion, usually at 7 pm. Check in at www.betterballotcampaign.org for many other suggested places to petition.

Let us know you are coming to one or all of these events, at info@betterballotcampaign.org and we'll help to remind you, get you prepared and then celebrate your success! If you can't attend a big event, get a few signatures by throwing a petition in your bag and taking it with you to the block party, the Farmer's market, the community garden, or wherever your St. Paul friends and neighbors gather.

New Endorsements

The St. Paul Better Ballot Campaign gained key endorsements from the Minnesota Council of Non-profits (MCN) and of the DFL Feminist Caucus. Prior to the endorsement decision, the MCN Board successfully implemented Instant Runoff Voting in determining "where to have lunch." In addition to its unanimous vote of support for the Better Ballot Campaign, the DFL Feminist Caucus offered to help secure the St. Paul DFL endorsement at the DFL convention on June 9.

St. Paul DFL Convention on June 9

The Better Ballot Campaign can use your help as a volunteer at the St. Paul DFL convention on Saturday, June 9 at the Lakes and Plains Regional Council of Carpenters and Joiners building. The Carpenters Hall is located at 700 Olive Street, on the east side of 35E, just northeast of downtown, between University Avenue and Phalen Boulevard. If you haven't yet told us whether you can help, email beth@betterballotcampaign.org.

The numbers say that the more people know about IRV the more they like it! Help us get the word out all over St. Paul by making a contribution today. Your donation of $5 or $500 or anywhere in between will ensure that we're able to table at events, mail information to voters, advertise, and put beautiful t-shirts on our volunteers.
